The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) is one of the prestigious services in the State. The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) is one of the best two-state Services in India. The first is the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM). The State Public Service Commission conducts combined state service examination for recruitment of above services every year. In the Uttar Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) conducts combined examination for the post of SDM, DSP and another State’s services every year with the examination name of the combined state/ upper subordinate service (PCS).

Three-step examination process

 The combined state/ upper subordinate service (PCS) is conducted every year by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission.  It is a three-step examination process-
  • ·         Preliminary examination
  • ·         Main examination
  • ·         Interview

Preliminary Examination

The preliminary examination is a compulsory part of an examination, that act as a screening test to mains examination, Conducted annually by UPPSC. In the preliminary examination, there are two papers, the papers are 200 marks each and of two hours duration. Both the papers are objective Type & multiple choices in which there are 150-100 questions respectively. Paper-II of the Preliminary Examination is a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%. It is mandatory for the Candidates to appear in both the papers of Preliminary Examination for the purpose of evaluation. In the preliminary examination, there are 1/3rd negative marks.

Main (Written) Examination: 

The Written examination will consist of the following compulsory and optional subjects.
Compulsory subjects
General Hindi-150 marks
Essay – 150 marks
General Studies I-200 marks
General Studies II-200 marks
General Studies II-200 marks
General Studies IV-200 marks
Optional subjects: The two papers are paper I and paper II. Two hundred maximum marks have been allotted for each optional question paper.

The Interview (100 marks)

The interview is the part of the mains examination. The interview, conducted by a board, assesses a candidate's overall personality. The interview board looks for the candidate's grasp of academics and general awareness as in current affairs, social issues, and general suitability for the service etc. The total marks obtained in both the written tests in mains examination and the personal interview determines the rank of the candidate.

Salary of DSP UP:  

  • Rs. 15600-39100/- Grade Pay Rs. 5400/- Deputy Superintendent of Police (6th Pay Commission).
  • The revised entry pay for Uttar Pradesh DSP post is 56,100 after the 7th pay commission for the state level staff.

Eligibility criteria

Nationality:

 A candidate must be a citizen of India.

Age Limits: 

A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 40.SC/ST get age relaxation maximum 05 years and OBC gets 03 years.

Minimum Educational Qualifications: 

The candidate must hold a bachelor degree of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India.
